Officer shoots, injures dog in Dayton

A dog was shot by police Thursday morning, police have confirmed.

The dog was injured and removed by the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

UPDATE @ 9:25 a.m.: 

An injured dog was removed by the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center after a Dayton police officer reported shots fired on West Third Street Thursday morning.

Officials have not said if the dog was shot by officers.

The injured dog was still alive when ARC officers took it away from the scene, according to our crew.

FIRST REPORT

A police supervisor has been requested after an officer reported shots fired in the area.

Police were in the area of West Third Street and Whitmore Avenue around 8:25 a.m. when an officer reported the shooting.

Initial emergency dispatch traffic indicated that officers may have fired at a dog in the area.

Additional emergency dispatch traffic indicated that the Animal Resource Center has also been requested to the scene.
