U.S. Postal Service busiest week begins today; Dates to know

Today is the busiest mailing day of the year and time is running out to get your cards and packages to their destination by Christmas.

News Center 7s' Gabrielle Enright was at the Xenia post office with the dates the public needs to know.

Two Xenia residents thought they were early enough to miss the crowd.

“I woke up early today to try and get down here,” said Daisy Williams.

“I thought I was early enough, but I guess everyone is an early riser this close to Christmas,” said Taylor Sage.

The post office was so busy, customers helped each other hold packages.

Carriers were also busy too. This is Heather Teets second Christmas with the USPS.

“It can change completely. Sometimes you’re working three extra hours. It’s a lot different,” she said.

Xenia’s Postmaster said their location has seen a 15 percent increase in the amount of packages to be delivered.

“I’m happy to see it. It can be overwhelming, but I guess it means our economy is doing well. It’s just busy,” said Teets.

  • Thursday, Dec. 20 for first class priority mail service (cards or packages)

Local post offices will not be extending their hours to handle holiday packages.
