Police: Child found wandering near busy Sugarcreek Twp. street

A child is safe and back with family members after she was found wandering near a busy Sugarcreek Twp. street Tuesday morning. according to police.

Police were dispatched around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on reports of a child wandering alone in the areas of Clyo Road, Center Point Drive, and Silverado Drive.

After locating the child, officers took her to nearby Stephen Bell Elementary School to locate an older sibling of the girl, Sugarcreek Twp. Police Chief Michael Brown said in an emailed statement.

A school official told our crew on the scene the child was not a student there and the school was asked to help police identify the child and locate family members.

Police were able to make contact with family members at an apartment building on Umberoak Court around 11 a.m. The child later left the apartment complex with another family member.

No arrests were made and no charges will be filed, Brown said.

This was one of two reports of wandering child in the area Tuesday. Around 1:15 p.m., Vandalia police were called to investigate after a young boy was found wandering alone on Homestretch Road.
