Crews battle large fire that spreads to 2 adjacent houses in Dayton

UPDATE @ 11 p.m.:

When crews arrived to the fully involved house fire at 24 W. Norman Ave., the fire was large enough to extend to houses on both sides, said District Chief Adam Landis of the Dayton Fire Department.

Flames were shown to be about 20 to 30 feet through the roof when crews were pulled out of the residence and went defensive.

“The guys did an outstanding job protecting the houses and extinguishing the fire,” said Landis.

One of the adjacent houses was occupied, but no residents or firefighters were injured. The exterior was damaged, but interior damage was minimal. The other two homes were believed to be vacant.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

UPDATE @ 10:10 p.m.:

The fire has now spread to a house next door, and crews are putting water on both homes.

Crews are inside the second home, and both homes appear to be vacant.

The house fire located at 24 W. Norman Avenue is reported as defensive.

FIRST REPORT: 

We are hearing reports of a working structure fire in the 20 block of W. Norman Avenue.

Initial reports state the fire is coming out of the roof.

The incident was reported around 9:45 p.m.
