Schools, teachers reach impasse

The Troy City Schools and the Troy City Education Association have reached an impasse in contract negotiations.

The teacher’s contract expired this summer. Mediation is scheduled for Aug. 20, the first day of the new school year for Troy students.

More than 60 members of the education association packed the Board of Education office meeting room for the board’s monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 11. Because of the number of guests, the board at the last minute moved the meeting across the street to the alumni room at the Troy stadium.

TCEA representatives made no comments to the board during the meeting. “We all just wanted to come out tonight to attend the meeting,” Leigh Ann Fish, TCEA president, said.

The board met in an executive session following Monday’s public session but planned no action afterward, board President Stephen Lucas said. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
