Van driver in I-75S crash in Auglaize County cited, OSP says

UPDATE @ 7:45 p.m. (Dec. 19):

The driver of a van involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on southbound Interstate 75 near Wapakoneta failed to keep a safe distance, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver, 36-year-old Ryan Ellison of Lima, crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer and became trapped. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital but on Wednesday was no longer listed as a patient.

The crash was reported around 2:50 p.m. Lanes were cleared by around 4:20 p.m.

The driver of the semi, Michael Goss, 36, of Corbin, Kentucky, was uninjured.

No alcohol or drugs were suspected, and Ellison was issued a citation for not maintaining a safe distance, according to the highway patrol.

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m.: 

The crash on I-75 South in Auglaize County has cleared and all lanes of the highway are now open, according to dispatchers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

One person was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by a CareFlight helicopter from the scene, however their condition was not immediately known.

All lanes of the highway reopened before 4:10 p.m.

Troopers continue to block the left lane of northbound I-75 between Troy and Piqua for a separate crash where no one was injured, investigators said.

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.:

Southbound lanes of I-75 remain shut down at U.S. 33 in Wapakoneta following an earlier crash in Auglaize County, according to dispatchers.

A medical helicopter was requested to the scene, but it was not known how many people were injured in the crash.

A car rolled in a separate crash on I-75 North between Troy and Piqua around 3:30 p.m. No injuries were reported in the crash, but the left lanes of both northbound and southbound traffic were blocked for the crash.

FIRST REPORT

Significant delays are reported in both directions of I-75 in Miami and Auglaize counties after two separate crashes Tuesday afternoon.

The first crash was reported on I-75 South a few miles north of Botkins in Auglaize County around 3 p.m.

State troopers shut down the southbound lanes before 3:15 p.m. after a medical helicopter was requested to the scene, according to reports.

The second crash was reported in Miami County between Troy and Piqua around 3:25 p.m. One vehicle reportedly rolled in the crash and is causing severe backups to northbound and southbound traffic.

Dispatchers confirmed the highway was not shut down in Miami County, but it was unknown what lanes were blocked.
