Driver suspected of OVI in fiery 2-vehicle collision in Centerville that injures 3

UPDATE @ 12:50 a.m. (June 2): The driver of a car that caught fire in a two-vehicle collision is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.

The driver, a 24-year-old male, was one of three people taken to hospitals after the accident.

According to the sheriff's office, he was driving a silver Volkswagen Jetta east on Austin Pike and rear-ended a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, which had stopped for a red light at Austin Pike and Yankee Street.

The driver of the Jetta got out when it burst into flames after coming to a stop in the intersection.

UPDATE @ 11:40 p.m. (June 1):

Three people have been taken to hospitals from a two-vehicle collision at West Social Row Road and Yankee Street that caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames.

Two of the injured were in the car that did not catch fire, Washington Twp. fire officials said. The third victim was in the car that burned.

All of the injuries were minor and not life threatening, fire officials said.

The collision was considered minor, but it caught one of the cars just right to cause its engine block to catch fire, fire officials said.

INITIAL REPORT (June 1)

Police and several fire/medic units are on the scene of a multiple-vehicle accident on West Social Row Road and Yankee Street in Centerville.

We're hearing there are at least two injuries.

Crews were dispatched just before 10:30 p.m. on the report of an injury accident.

We're hearing that a car and an SUV are involved in the collision and one of the vehicles was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.
