Four adults have been arrested and as many as two juveniles have been cited to court after a street fight just before 10 p.m. Monday night in Riverside ignited by text messages among the group that involved a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, police Sgt. Mike Safriet said.

The mom of one of the juveniles brought a gun to the melee in an effort to break it up, but she ran when police showed up. An officer who caught the woman, who has a license to carry a firearm, discovered the gun wasn't loaded.

The police department will not pursue charges against the mom because of those two facts, the sergeant said.

A large number of police from Dayton showed up to assist Riverside police because Huber Heights police/fire dispatch, which handles calls for Riverside police at night, was told a gun was involved, he said.

"It was pretty chaotic at the beginning," Sgt. Safriet said. "We didn't know whether there were multiple guns or whether shots were being fired."

He said one of his officers rolled up on the fistfight in progress on Mertland Avenue and Fourth Street that involved six to seven males and females. Half of them showed up in vehicles; the rest came from one of the houses nearby.

No injuries were reported.
