The crash was reported around 12:40 a.m. to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, which confirmed the deputy was not hurt.
The deputy reported that he would have to put the deer down. A community member already on a list was contacted, a dispatcher said. That person is expected to field dress and collect the deer.
The deputy reported damage to his cruiser, but it was not clear immediately whether it was disabled following the crash, the dispatcher said.
