A Darke County homeowner was taken to an area hospital following a struggle with an intruder who broke into the house Friday afternoon, Chief Deputy Mark Whittaker of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to reports of a home invasion robbery around noon at the house in the 2500 block of Albright Road near Arcanum.

The homeowners escaped the house but before getting out, there was a brief struggle with one homeowner and the intruder, Whittaker said.

The resident was taken to the Wayne Health emergency room for treatment of injuries described as not life-threatening.

Deputies searched the home but did not find the intruder inside, Whittaker said.

The intruder also was not found after deputies checked other surrounding property.

The robbery remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

The incident also prompted a lockdown at the Arcanum-Butler schools. However, the lockdown was later lifted and students were dismissed as usual.
