UPDATE @ 3:59 p.m.:

A juvenile male was taken to a local hospital after a deputy shot him after the juvenile attempted to run over or strike the deputy in an apartment parking lot, said Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck.

The vehicle was initially spotted driving recklessly at speeds of 50-60 mph through a residential neighborhood around 2 p.m.,  Streck said. The vehicle had people hanging out of it when it was initially seen.

Deputies lost sight of the vehicle, which was reported stolen, but it was spotted a short time later in an apartment parking lot.  That’s where, as the deputy exited his vehicle, the driver attempted to run over or strike the deputy, Streck said. During the incident, the deputy fired shots at the juvenile.

A low-speed pursuit followed and ended in another apartment complex parking lot off Riverside Drive. The driver got out and deputies discovered he had a gunshot wound. Streck said the driver’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. His age was not released.

A male passenger attempted to run from the vehicle, but was caught nearby.

The names of the driver and the other male were not immediately known.

Deputies are working to secure a search warrant for the vehicle.

The deputy who fired shots will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard when a service weapon is fired.
