Driver in critical condition after single-vehicle crash in Jefferson Twp.

UPDATE @ 1:50 p.m.: 

A driver is in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 35 in Jefferson Twp., according to deputies.

The vehicle crossed over the center line of U.S. 35 and slammed into a tree near the intersection with North Lutheran Church Road around 11:30 a.m., investigators said.

The driver was rescued from the vehicle and transported by a CareFlight medical helicopter to an area hospital in critical condition.

The identity of the driver was not released.

A crash reconstruction team continues to investigate the crash and U.S. 35 remains shut down in both directions.

Investigators said its unknown what caused the driver to go left-of-center.

U.S. 35 remains shut down in both directions near North Lutheran Church Road in Jefferson Twp. after a crash was first reported over two hours ago.

A medical helicopter responded to the crash with at least one person suffering serious injuries.

The conditions of the victim was not released by investigators on scene.

A crash reconstruction team has responded and is investigating the crash.

Additional details were not released.
