LATEST: Springfield firefighter hurt, pets perish in Middle Street house fire

UPDATE @ 4:20 p.m. (April 23): A Springfield firefighter was injured and several pets perished in Monday evening's house fire in the 1000 block of Middle Street.

According to the Springfield Fire Division, unattended cooking is being blamed for the fire, which sent heavy flames out of the rear of the building.

UPDATE @ 9:05 p.m. (April 22):

The house fire on Middle Street is out and Springfield fire crews are investigating, trying to pin down the cause.

We’re hearing that flames burned through the roof of the two-story, single-family home. Crews also knocked out windows to ventilate the house.

We’re heard no reports of injury.

INITIAL REPORT (April 22)

Crews are on the scene of a house fire in the 1000 block of Middle Street.

The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. and there are no reports of any injuries.

Springfield firefighters have asked police for traffic control at Lagonda Avenue and Warder Street.
