Springfield hosting national powerlifting meet

The two-day event will bring as many as 400 powerlifters to Springfield Health and Fitness, 202 N. Limestone St. Lifters from across the country, including as far as Oklahoma, will participate in the event, Owner Pat Frock said.

Competitors will compete in events such as bench press, squats and deadlifts, among others.

The event will be held today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

After the gym’s recent move from the Bushnell Building to the former News-Sun building, Frock expects to host similar powerlifting events in the future.

“We have plenty of space,” she said.
