A Springfield husband and wife were killed late Friday morning in a Mercer County crash.

Malcolm Hughes, 67, and Judy Hughes, 65, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of state routes 707 and 49, according to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey.

Malcolm Hughes was driving a 2014 Jeep west on state Route 707 around 11:50 a.m. when he failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection. The Jeep was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet 3500 truck driven by 65-year-old William Hamrick of Wilshire that was traveling south on state Route 49, Grey said.
