Students warned not to play Nerf Wars in the nude

LIBERTY TWP. — Lakota East students will have a better chance of winning “Nerf Wars” if they are naked, but doing so could also lead to a charge of indecent exposure.

Nerf Wars, organized by students, revolves around teams using Nerf guns to “shoot” members of other teams with Nerf guns. Students pay an entry fee, and at the end, the last team standing takes the money. Game rules include not being able to be shot at school, at work, or if naked, said Lakota East Principal Keith Kline in an e-mail to Lakota East parents.

Nerf Wars are not organized or affiliated with the district, he said.

Kline said Nerf Wars “encourages typically smart kids to make poor choices,” and said he’s been notified by Butler County sheriff deputies that charges will be filed on any student caught naked or driving recklessly.

On April 28, a Butler County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the 7340 block of Pebble Creek on a report of indecent exposure. A woman stated that three males were playing Nerf Wars in a yard across the street, and one of the male subjects was naked. She stated she was upset because she had 12-year-old twins and didn’t want them to see nudity.

The subjects fled prior to the sheriff deputies arrival, and charges have not been filed.

According to a page on

, the “war” began April 25, and nearly 70 Lakota East seniors are participating.

The game has been played in previous years by students in other school districts throughout Butler and Warren counties.
