SWEET TREAT: Locally owned ice cream shop unveils new food truck

A locally owned and independent ice cream shop that just opened for its first full season after serving its first customers in late summer 2018 has also gone mobile with a new food truck.

The Sweet Retreat at 2613 S. Smithville Road will be serving up five flavors of slushies, 30 flavors of milkshakes, and two flavors of ice cream at  local festivals, fairs, and other events, including weddings, its owners announced on Facebook. One of The Sweet Retreat food truck's first public appearances will be at Dayton's Triangle Park on Saturday for NFL draft day festivities.

“We have been working tirelessly this winter to create the absolute best/unique sweet treat experience on wheels,” Sweet Retreat co-founders Simon Wiley and Chris Tobias, who attended the same grade school and high school, said on Facebook.

In a follow-up interview, Tobias told this news outlet, “With this being on first season, we are still trying to learn the ropes on different events in and around our city. We will be in the city of Dayton’s festivals and events. We will also be trying to do corporate events, private parties, and events for schools around the area.”

The Sweet Retreat is located in space that previously housed a Dairy Queen in Dayton’s Belmont neighborhood.
