The best places in Dayton to order scrumptious, locally baked Thanksgiving pies

 

What is Thanksgiving without pie? The good news is you can spend zero time in the kitchen and still serve an assortment of delicious discs of love at your table.

Mimi’s will offer whole pumpkin ($16.99) and pecan pies ($17.99) to take home on the day of Thanksgiving.

You’ll have to call soon to order a Partial to Pie goodie for the holiday. The Thanksgiving orders deadline is November 10. You can expect classic pies from these guys— cherry, blueberry, blackberry and mixed berry. Then for the fruit fans— peach, apple, apple crumb and peach mango. The bakery’s quiche also has earned quite the reputation. Call 937-813-8851 to place an order.

The newest pie aficionados in Dayton are ready to show what they’re made of, literally, this Thanksgiving season.

Mehaffie’s offers 30 different types of pies. For orders, call 937-253-1163, preferably two days in advance. Pick up your pies Monday through Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The bakery will also have plenty of pies (especially pumpkin, apple, pecan and chocolate) available for walk-in purchases as well. Most pies are $8.50 or $8.75. Mehaffie’s also offers several types of New York-style cheesecake, ranging from $9.25-$13.25.

Ghostlight is taking pre-orders for its popular Ghostlight Thanksgiving dessert menu. The star of this year’s menu is the Lumberjack pie. The 10-inch pie can be pre-ordered for the holiday or requested by special order now, said Shane Anderson, owner of the coffee shop located at 1201 Wayne Ave. in Dayton’s South Park neighborhood. The coffee shop/bakery also offers Mama Smith’s fantastic apple pie ($16), made with apples from Pfeifer Orchards in Yellow Springs; pumpkin & maple ($16); Kentucky bourbon pecan ($17); bourbon sweet potato ($19 and gluten free), and cranberry apple with pecan crumble ($19 and gluten free). 

Plus, there are gluten-free dinner rolls (6 pack for $7.50), pumpkin snickerdoodles (a dozen vegan and nut free, $9); and Fall Tonic Autumn Blend coffee (12 ounces, $14.25). 

The order deadline is Saturday, Nov.17 by noon. Pick-up Dates: Tuesday, Nov. 20, 12-5 p.m. or Wednesday, Nov. 21, 12-5 p.m.

Ashley's Pastry Shop in Oakwood offers a wide variety of traditional and specialty pastries, pies and other treats.

Ashley’s is taking orders for all sorts of pies, including apple, cherry, pumpkin, pecan, lemon meringue, chocolate cream and blueberry. Prices are $10.95-$15.95. The bakery also makes cakes, cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, traditional dinner rolls and its famous butterscotch rolls.

Ashley's Pastry Shop sells hundreds of dozens of Butterscotch Rolls every Thanksgiving and ships them all over the country to people who want an authentic taste of Dayton on their holiday plate.

Owner Theresa Hammons told us she sold 780 dozen butterscotch rolls on the day before Thanksgiving last year and shipped another 300 dozen all over the country. “Thanksgiving is about tradition,” Hammons said. “Sharing a meal together with the ones you love.”

Evans is taking orders for 15 different types of pies, ranging from pumpkin and sweet potato to peanut butter and pecan. They also offer rolls (challah to potato to butter flake), cookies and more. Call by Monday, Nov. 19. The last day to pick up your goodies is Wednesday, Nov. 21, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Owner Jennifer Evans also told us she'd have some pies available for walk-ins that week. DLM is offering traditional pumpkin, pecan, apple, apple crumb, caramel apple, cherry, peach, strawberry rhubarb and mincemeat, as well as an assortment of cream pies. DLM is a great option for last-minute pie needs, as they only ask for a 24-hour notice and you can even order on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. All DLM locations, EXCEPT for Oakwood, close at 11 p.m. The Oakwood branch closes at midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 21 before Thanksgiving. You must place your order by calling 937-434-1294 and asking for the bakery.

🥧Perkins Restaurant & Bakery offers more than 8 different whole pies to-go, including pumpkin, cherry, caramel apple and coconut cream. They all cost about $11.99-$13.99. Call a few days ahead to guarantee that the pie you want will be ready for pickup. however you can place an order the day of and Perkins will try and fill your order for you— even the day of Thanksgiving.
