A 31-year-old Eaton man took prescription medication, a loaded firearm, coins, knives, DVDs and video games from his girlfriend’s parents, according to a release from Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson.

Daniel R. Salyers gave permission for deputies to search his car when he was pulled over April 29 for a routine traffic violation. That’s when the prescription medication was found that was not in his name, the release stated.

Salyers reportedly admitted he took the medication and other items shortly before the traffic stop from his girlfriend’s parents home in the 1000 block of South State Line Road in Dixon Twp. west of Eaton, the sheriff said.

Salyers was charged in Eaton Municipal Court with burglary, grand theft of a firearm, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor charges of petty theft and theft of drugs.

He was booked into the Preble County Jail but has since posted bond and was released.
