Johnson will become a instructional supervisor, focusing on curriculum and instruction.
“I certainly wasn’t looking for a position, to change. The bottom line is this position became available,” Johnson said Wednesday.
The mother of three children - one each in elementary, junior high and high school - Johnson said the principal’s job is very time consuming and she needs to have more time for family.
Tom Dunn, Troy schools superintendent, said interviews of potential principal candidates will begin yet this week.
“We really hate to see her go, but we completely understand and respect her decision,” Dunn said. “She always has the best interest of students in mind.”
Johnson said she’s held firm in her career to a student-centered philosophy. “If it’s not good for the students, I am not doing it,” she said.
She said she feels “OK” leaving the junior high. “The people there will do just fine. The staff is excellent.”
