Victim of fatal Springboro crash identified

A 42-year-old woman killed in a three-vehicle crash in downtown Springboro Tuesday night has been identified.

Springboro police confirmed Wednesday morning that Michelle Marie Filson, of Xenia, died as a result of the crash. Three others were injured. The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on South Main Street.

The incident involved a Pontiac Sunfire, a Hyundai sedan, and a Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to Springboro police Detective Terry Dunkel. Filson was riding in the Sunfire.

Those victims injured in the accident — two females and a male — were taken to Atrium Medical Center. Their conditions were described as non-life threatening, according to authorities at the scene.

A preliminary investigation, according to Dunkel, revealed the Sunfire was traveling south and veered left of center, striking the F-150. The Sunfire then T-boned the Hyundai. Filson was riding in the rear of the car on the passenger side. She suffered the brunt of the T-bone’s impact, according to Dunkel.

Filson was not wearing a seatbelt, he said.

No citations have been issued but Dunkel said he expects the driver of the Sunfire to be cited for traveling left of center. Additional charges are possible.

The vehicles involved sustained heavy damage in the accident. Reports indicated a medical helicopter was initially called to the scene.

South Main Street was closed for several hours to allow authorities to conduct the investigation.
