Warren County K9 dies after battle with cancer

Warren County K9 Kash has died following a nearly year-long battle with cancer.

The Belgium Malinois died Nov. 9. Kash began his career with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in 2009. He was the first law enforcement canine trained to detect prescription pills in the country, according to a release.

He was always ready for petting by kids and adults at community events, and he aided in narcotic sweeps at local schools, detention facilities, shipping facilities and roadside searches.

Kash continued to work following his diagnosis until he retired in July. He spent the last few months of his life at home with his best friend and handler, deputy Brian Lewis, according to a release.
