An eight-inch water valve at the intersection of Maud-Hughes and Hamilton-Mason in Liberty Township broke at 12:15 a.m., releasing a plume of water into the air.

The stream eroded a portion of the road, according to Butler County Water and Sewer Director Bob Leventry, and the intersection is currently closed. Leventry hopes to reopen it late tomorrow, after the affected road is patched with asphalt.

Leventry said that a repair crew arrived at the scene around 1:30 a.m., and the water system was operational by 10:30 a.m. Power lines that were shorted out by the break were also put back in service.
