W. Alex Bell Road in West Carrollton reopens; Vectren repairing leaky gas valve

UPDATE @ 5:15 p.m.: The gas valve has been shut off and West Alex Bell Road in West Carrollton has reopened.

Weather had nothing to do with the leaky valve and repairs are being made, a Vectren official said.

UPDATE @ 4:45 p.m.:

A problem with a valve, believed to be weather-related, is causing the shutdown of a section of West Alex Bell Road in West Carrollton.

That assessment comes from West Carrollton police and fire officials.

The location of the leak appears to be in the area of West Alex bell Road at Keith Drive. West Alex Bell is closed in both directions, at Homedale Street and Eda Avenue.

Police and fire are allowing residents are into their homes. Residents also are being told to keep the doors shut and refrain from smoking.

A Vectren technician is on scene, awaiting a crew to deal with the leak.

West Carrollton police suggest the following detours:

  • If you are northbound on North Springboro Pike (state Route 741), turn left onto Lindbergh Boulevard and take it back to West Alex Bell
  • If you are southbound on North Springboro Pike (state Route 7410, turn right onto Lindbergh
  • If you are eastbound on West Alex Bell, turn left onto Lindbergh and head east to 741. Turn right at 741 and head south back to Alex Bell
  • If you are westbound on Alex Bell, turn right onto 741 and head north to Lindbergh. Turn left there to head back to West Alex Bell.

INITIAL REPORT

A gas leak on West Alex Bell Road has closed a portion of the road this afternoon.

The leak closed the road between Eda Avenue and Homedale Street, according to reports.

No evacuations had been ordered as of 4:30 p.m.

Vectren has been contacted to make repairs, police said.
