West Carrollton man charged in Hamilton rape

James E. Rose, of West Carrollton, also faces charges in a separate incident minutes later.

HAMILTON — A 33-year-old Montgomery County man is in custody, charged with raping one woman and assaulting another just minutes apart early Sunday morning, according to police.

James E. Rose of the 4900 block of Infirmary Drive in West Carrollton is charged with first-degree felony rape and misdemeanor assault of two 23-year-old females.

The rape occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the lot behind Bill’s Firehouse Bar, 25 S. Seventh St. — a bar at which Rose regularly patronized, according to Hamilton police officer Rich Burkhardt.

“He motioned for her (the victim) to come outside with him,” Burkhardt said. “She kind of knew him, but not really.”

Burkhardt said after the alleged attack, Rose ran to the West Side of Hamilton, where he struck Nicole Velde.

“We think there will be more charges on him once it gets to grand jury,” Burkhardt said.

According to police reports, officer Tom Hurst observed Rose near a building in the 100 block of Main Street when a description of the rape suspect came over the radio. Rose matched the description and was spotted running across D Street from an alley between Main Street and Park Avenue, according to police reports.

The victim identified Rose and said he dragged her behind a building and raped her. Rose remains in the Butler County Jail.

Rose also had an outstanding warrant for obstructing official business from Montgomery County.

According to Miamisburg Municipal Court records, Rose has prior domestic violence and breaking and entering charges. Rose’s preliminary hearing is set for Monday in Hamilton Municipal Court.
