Springboro Councilman Bruce Moore died in September and was replaced by his wife, Carol Moore.

The wife of Ward 3 City Councilman Bruce Moore has been appointed to finish his term.

Moore, 64, died on Sept. 29 at his Springboro home Sept. 29.

On Thursday, Springboro City Council voted unanimously to appoint his wife, Carol Moore.

“My husband, Bruce, had such a vision and passion for this place we all call home. I share that same passion and want to help in any way I can to contribute to his legacy,” she said in her application letter.

Moore was chosen over nine applicants for the council seat. The other candidates included Mike Kruse, a former Springboro school board member and retired postmaster.

The other candidates were:

Carol Moore is a Realtor for Coldwell Banker Heritage and a member of the Springboro Area Chamber of Commerce. She indicated she refrained from involvement in city affairs while her husband was on council.

Her appointment could set the stage for a contested election for the seat next year.

“I further pledge that if you give me this opportunity to prove myself that I will seek re-election in next year’s ward seat election. This is not a stopover for me, it is a lifelong commitment,” Carol Moore wrote in her letter of application.

She was in Miami on Thursday as the council voted to appoint her.

The council had a moment of silence in her husband’s memory at the start of the meeting.

“May he rest in peace,” Mayor John Agenbroad said.

The council approved the appointment after an executive session at the end of the meeting.
