Woman accused in theft, forgery of grandfather’s checks

MASON — Arrest warrants have been issued for two Mason women in connection with a theft involving an elderly victim.

Warrants were issued Jan. 27 for Rebecca L. Monroe, 18, and Jessica N. Oliver, 18, both of Mason. Complaints were filed Jan. 22 against Monroe, who is accused of forging checks from her grandfather and stealing about $330.

Around 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22, Mason police responded to the residence of James Rieth, 67, in the 100 block of Lynnview Avenue. Rieth’s son, John Rieth, 40, of Mason, reported to police that after reviewing his father’s finances he noticed questionable activity that led to overdraft charges, police reports said.

James Rieth told Mason police that he would partially complete and sign checks for his medication prescriptions to be picked up by Monroe, who resides with him. When picking up the medications, Monroe would allegedly add in a higher amount on the checks made out to Yost Pharmacy in order to receive excess cash.

Monroe is wanted on two felony charges for theft and forgery, according to Mason Municipal Court. Oliver is wanted for felony complicity, according to court records.

According to court records, Monroe was also charged Feb. 1 with misdemeanor charges of theft and possession of drug abuse instruments. An arraignment has been set for Thursday morning.

Monroe’s sister, a 17-year-old, was arrested Jan. 22 for an outstanding warrant from Warren County Juvenile Court. Police are also investigating her involvement in the thefts.
