Four other people and a second dog escaped from the fire that was reported around 7 a.m.
Dispatch got a report of a working fire in the 500 block of Chestnut Avenue from a Clark County sheriff’s deputy who was on his way to work, Lynn said.
“He saw a glow in the sky and went to investigate it and confirmed that we had a fire,” he said.
When firefighters arrived, a man told them that there was five residents, two dogs and two cats that lived in the house.

The two cats are currently unaccounted for, Lynn said.
“We have not found them so we’re hopeful that they escaped along with the family members,” he said.
A family relative, Jennifer Keech, said the survived dog is still on the loose.
“One of the dogs is still running loose out here. He has been spotted but he will not come to anybody because he’s scared still,” she said.
Keech also said the woman who died in the fire was the residents’ grandmother. Her identity has not yet been released.
The four other occupants were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, Lynn said.
Lynn said they are still working to determine the origin, cause and damage estimate.

The Clark County Coroner is on scene of a single-level house fire on Chestnut Avenue in Springfield.
The fire was reported around 7 a.m. in the 500 block.
According to our crew on scene, the house is severely damaged with burn marks on the front and the sides.

The fire marshal, police and fire department are also all on scene.
Chestnut Avenue is completely blocked off while crews work to investigate the fire.
