Woman who fraudulently obtained SNAP benefits sentenced on federal charges

A Dayton woman who pleaded guilty to federal charges of fraudulently obtaining food card benefits was sentenced in court Wednesday.

Cynthia A. Faulkner, 34, was sentenced to 21 months in prison today after she previously entered guilty pleas to charges of making false documents, filing  false income tax returns, and other charges, according to the Department of Justice.

Court documents alleged Faulkner made false statements in an application for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits filled out in April 2013, according to the DOJ. In that application, she falsely reported the cost of rent for her Mason residence, where she paid over $2,000 a month to live.

In a 2014 SNAP benefit reapplication, Faulker falsely reported her husband’s income was around $36,000, when in fact the couple made nearly $91,000 that year, DOJ officials said.

She also filed false income tax returns in 2011 and 2012 by underreporting business receipts but hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to investigators.

Faulker is booked in the Butler County Jail, according to jail records.
