Xenia Twp. woman sent to prison for fatal 2016 OVI crash

A 65-year-old woman was sent to prison Thursday after being convicted of causing a drunken-driving crash that killed a man and seriously injured his wife in Greene County.

Kathy Smith, formerly of Xenia Twp., was sentenced to a seven-year prison term by Judge Stephen Wolaver in Greene County Common Pleas Court.

A jury convicted Smith in January of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The August 2016 crash on Hussey Road killed 68-year-old Raymond Deyo and seriously injured his wife, Linda Deyo, who was a passenger. Smith also suffered serious injuries.

Court records show Smith’s blood-alcohol content was .343, more than four times the state’s legal limit of .08.

As part of the sentence, Smith owes a mandatory fine of $1,075 and her driver’s license was suspended for life. In addition, Smith will be under community control for five years after her release from prison, according to court records.
