Man charged after he damages police lobby doors

A Middletown man picked the wrong place to take out his frustrations.

Ernest Thyot II, 36, was charged with criminal damaging, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct to wit intoxication after he allegedly damaged the automatic sliding doors outside the Middletown Division of Police Department lobby, according to a report.

Police were called to the lobby at 1:10 a.m. Monday after Thyot allegedly was seen trying to break the doors, the report read. He then was seen walking into the police garage that has a sign at the entrance that reads: “Authorized Personnel Only.”

Police found Thyot near the evidence lockers. He was told to “get on the ground” and place his hands behind his back, according to the report. He refused at first, then gave officers his hands, the report read.

Thyot smelled of alcohol and he appeared to be “heavily intoxicated,” according to the report. He told officers he was looking for his bicycle and he was upset nobody would help him.

His case was reviewed and a hearing was delayed until Nov. 5, according to Middletown Municipal Court records.
