A grand jury indicted Byrd on Monday for escape, a second-degree felony, and misdemeanor criminal damaging. He is now housed in the Warren County Jail.
“He was able to get out of the facility and was found a short time later walking down the road,” said Warren County Assistant Prosecutor Steve Knippen.
Corrections staff members were able to talk him into returning.
Byrd was convicted of robbery in 2013 in Butler County and sentenced to prison for seven years. He was convicted of possession of a deadly weapon under detention in Warren County Common Pleas Court in 2014 and sentenced to an additional nine months, according to court records.
The 2013 incident involved the robbery of a Franklin man in his van in the parking lot of Speedway, 3501 Roosevelt Blvd. in Middletown.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Warren County Common Pleas Court on newly indicted charges.
