Man hit crossing Wayne Avenue now dead

Dayton Lt. Donald Burden said the victim, identified as Dean Ellis, 49,  was in extremely critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital following the crash, which occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday. News Center 7 confirmed early Monday that Ellis has died from his injuries and his body is now at the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.

Burden said Ellis was not crossing the street in a crosswalk.

Ellis was reportedly crossing Wayne Avenue in the area of Wayne and Wyoming Street, when a vehicle travelling north on Wayne hit him, Burden said. The 49-year-old may have been impaired when he was crossing the street.

Police said the driver of the Dodge Durango was not injured. No other people or vehicles we involved in the crash.
