The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night at the intersection of Selma Road and South Limestone Street.
Dispatchers said the ambulance was northbound on South Limestone Street when a car turning south on Selma Road came into its path.
The drivers of both vehicles claimed to have had a green light at the time of the crash, according to dispatchers.
The patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash was taken by another unit to Springfield Regional Medical Center.
A medic in the crashed ambulance was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Dispatchers said no citations were issued and an investigation is underway.

A Springfield Fire Division ambulance was transporting a patient tonight when it was involved in a crash, Springfield police said.
A second medic unit was called for the patient, but it’s not clear whether there were any other injuries in the crash reported sometime before 9:45 p.m. at Spring and Pleasant streets.
