Ex-Miamisburg teacher convicted: 5 recent times teachers faced charges

Friday’s conviction of a former Miamisburg teacher is the latest court case involving an educator accused of wrongdoing.

Jessica Langford, 32, of Centerville, was found guilty by a jury of three counts of sexual battery and three counts of lawful sexual conduct with a minor. She was accused of having sex in her Miamisburg Middle School classroom with a 14-year-old student.

Langford is scheduled to be sentenced May 14.

Here are five other court cases involving educators. Four of them involve teachers and four of them involve charges of sexual conduct with students:

•Former Kettering substitute teacher Madeline Marx. She is scheduled to be sentenced in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court this week after pleading guilty last month to sexual battery charges.

The 23-year-old Brookville woman was charged with two felony counts of sexual battery. She is accused of having a sexual relationship with at least two Fairmont High School students, police said.

•Franklin High School teacher Madalyn Arnett. The 25-year-old West Carrollton woman faces a sexual battery charge in connection with an accusation of having sex with a student in a Franklin Twp. parking lot, according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell.

Arnett, a first-year social studies teacher, was placed on leave March 27 after Franklin High School officials reported a sexual relationship between her and a 16-year-old male student, according to the prosecutor’s office.

•Former Dayton Public Schools coach and teacher's aide Donte D. Murphy. He was indicted in July 2016 for sexual battery against a student.

Murphy was sentenced in October 2017 to five years of probation after being found guilty of five felonies – forgery, tampering with government records and three counts of sexual battery. County prosecutor’s spokesman Greg Flannagan has said there was one victim in the case, a female student who had already turned 18.

•Former Huber Heights teacher Steve Jutras. Jutras was 47 when he was sentenced in November 2016 to prison for attempting to run down a woman in the parking lot of the Walmart in Butler Twp.

The former teacher of the year was given three years on a felonious assault charge to run concurrent with a previous drug conviction. He was sentenced to two years for the drug conviction, and is expected to get credit for five-and-a-half months he spent in jail.

•Butler County teacher Tyler Conrad. The former Fairfield High School teacher was 26 when he was found guilty in June 2017 on charges of sexual imposition and contributing to delinquency of a minor.

Conrad was placed on administrative leave Oct. 13, 2016, before being indicted in on sexual battery as well as the charges for which he was eventually convicted.

The alleged activity happened between Conrad and a 16-year-old female student between Aug. 16 and Oct. 9, 2016, according to the indictment.
