Six people will be recognized for their unsung service to the community and for always paying it forward at an annual awards luncheon next month.

Celeste Didlick-Davis, chief executive officer and founder of 3R Development Inc., said this is the sixth year in a row that the awards will recognize the “silent heroes” in the Middletown area for their continuing service to the community as well as their efforts in mentoring others.

This year’s event, sponsored by 3R Development and Miami University Regionals, will be held on Feb. 1 at Johnston Hall at Miami University Middletown.

Didlick-Davis said there have always been people who have been doing the work behind the scenes and without fanfare. She said they are also the ones who praised and encouraged people to do good work for the community.

“Kids need people who are part of the community and who show positive attributes and mentor young people,” she said. “They also show the importance of giving back through community service and they are committed to improving their life and the lives of others.”

She said this is also a way to rebuild the community.

Didlick-Davis said those “Silent Heroes” being recognized this year include:

• Milton Lee, a volunteer who serves as a mentor at Rosa Parks Elementary School. While he is not originally from Middletown, he is being recognized for his noteworthy commitment.

• Sherry Holdbrook, for her many years of faithful service to the youth of our community. Didlick-Davis said she does not just recruit them for church, but she exposes them to a variety of cultural and educational opportunities that would not otherwise experience

• Jimmie Lee Hendricks, for her service to her church as well as to the Dream Center, the Legacy After School program and a variety of other charitable organizations.

• Vernice Aldridge, for support and encouragement in the community as well as assistance of many senior citizens with rides and other needs.

• Danielle “Precious” Kay, owner of Divalized, LLC, as another encourager in the community. Didlick-Davis said Kay often does community service so that young girls do not have to go to school looking unkempt. She also has launched a ministry concerning victims of domestic violence.

• Kevin Helvey Sr. will be recognized with the Community Service Award for spearheading the Feed the Flock serving over families for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
