Middletown teen sentenced in beating death of baby alpaca

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) -- A judge has sentenced an Ohio teen in the theft of a baby alpaca that was beaten to death.

Eighteen-year-old Marcus Miller was sentenced Thursday in Butler County Common Pleas Court in Hamilton to eight months in prison and up to six months in a community corrections center. He was convicted of breaking and entering, tampering with evidence, vandalism and grand theft.

The Middletown-area teen was credited with time served for a three-month jail sentence for animal cruelty. He also must work 100 hours in an animal shelter and pay restitution.    Authorities say the 3-month-old llama-like animal was taken from a southwest Ohio farm last January by Miller and two co-defendants and fatally beaten.

The alpaca, named Masterpiece, was valued at $8,000.
