This year’s program surpasses the 2016 mark, when the city spent more than $750,000 paving more than 30 streets, Miamisburg records show. Miamisburg City Council has unanimously approved awarding of the contract to John R. Jurgensen Co. of Springfield.

Jurgensen submitted a bid of $1.06 million while Barrett Paving Materials Inc. of Franklin bid $1.24 million, city records show. Jurgensen previously received the city’s paving contract in 2008, 2014 and 2015, said Miamisburg Engineer Bob Stanley.
The increased emphasis on road work is the result of a budget windfall and is part of Miamisburg’s strategic plan, which was heavily based on resident input in recent years, said City Manager Keith Johnson.

“The city’s budget surplus last year enabled council to increase the number of streets included in our annual paving program in 2017,” he said.
“This is the second consecutive year we’ve been able to resurface a greater number of streets than usual, and that’s a direct response to citizen feedback we received in a 2014 citizen survey,” Johnson added. “Our residents have indicated they want street maintenance to be a priority.”

The work will likely start this summer and is projected to be completed by the end of September, Stanley said.
Along with the Miamisburg Soccer Association complex on Medlar Road, the work will include South Heincke Road from Belvo to Rosita Drive, a “heavily traveled, high-traffic area,” Stanley said.
The work will include other neighborhoods such as Eighth Street from Richard Street to the curve and Eleventh Street from Kercher Street to Orchard Hill Drive, records show.
Two sections of Linden Avenue – Miami Avenue to Main Street and Maue Road to Cherry Hill Drive – will receive work, city records show.
The 2017 program also includes the entirety of the following courts: Beldon, Berwin, Cedar Ridge, Crayton, Gas Light, Kirkwall, Sir Guy and Tivoli.
