Montgomery County offers free well water testing Thursday

Montgomery County is offering free well water testing.

The event hosted by the Montgomery County Environmental Lab is set for Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 4257 Dryden Road in Moraine.

Every participant will receive a free nitrate/nitrite and iron screening courtesy of the Miami Conservancy District, according to the county.

The first 50 participants will also receive a free confidential lead, arsenic and manganese test.

Residents are asked to fill a 1-liter water bottle for screenings. For lead tests, take the sample after six hours of non-use or when you first turn on the water in the morning.

The event will also feature:

• A well driller and water treatment representative from the Ohio Water Well Association;

• Representatives from Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County to answer questions about maintaining safe private water systems;

• Discounted bacteria test kits for $20;

• Other metal tests will be available ($12 for the first metal plus $4 for each additional metal)
