A Cleveland public relations firm says the public is invited to pass by Voinovich’s casket in the rotunda of Cleveland City Hall from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday. The firm says there will be a program to honor Voinovich at 2 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

The funeral home handling arrangements for the Voinovich family said Monday that there will be calling hours from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday in Willoughby Hills. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Voinovich spent more than 40 years in public office as a state representative, a county auditor, a lieutenant governor, a county commissioner, mayor, governor and finally two terms as a U.S. senator. He announced in 2009 that he would not seek a third Senate term and said he wanted to spend more time with his family. He and his wife, Janet, married in 1962.

Voinovich remained active in the days before his death. He delivered public remarks Friday at a 25th Slovenian Independence Day event at Cleveland City Hall. He was to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention coming to Cleveland next month.
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges said Monday that either an alternate or another Republican will be picked to replace Voinovich as a delegate.
