An Alabama couple is accused of having sex in a vehicle parked in a police department parking lot, authorities said.

Brookside police Chief Mike Jones said Paula Garner and James Sanders, both of Center Point, were arrested Friday afternoon, WBRC reported.

The Brookside Police Department reported on its Facebook page, around 3:30 p.m., authorities "observed a couple on the security cameras engaging in sexual activity inside a vehicle" that was parked in the police department's parking lot.

According to police, when the couple was confronted, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the WBMA reported. A K-9 unit was called to scene, and authorities discovered crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a firearm, AL.com reported.

The couple was walked from the parking lot to the jail, WBRC reported.

Garner and Sanders were charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, as well as indecent exposure, the website reported. Sanders also was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The vehicle was impounded, AL.com reported.
