Children witness parents fall to death while taking photo on cliff

A tragic story is emerging out of Portugal, where it’s being reported that a Polish couple fell hundreds of feet to their deaths while attempting to be photographed by their children on a scenic cliff.

According to The Portugal Resident, the couple's children saw their parents fall off of the cliffs at Cabo da Roca while the family was on vacation.

The website reported that the couple ignored safety barriers at the popular tourist spot in an attempt to get an “end of Europe” photo, which is a common practice, but one that has repeatedly ended in tragedy.

Some websites are reporting the couple were taking a 'selfie' when the accident occurred, however The Portugal Resident reported that couple gave the camera to their children, ages 5 and 6, to take the photo.

Cabo da Roca is on the far western edge of the European continent and is a popular tourist destination.

The accident happened Saturday but emergency crews were unable to recover the bodies until Sunday because of high tides.

The Daily Mail reported that according to Monika Dulian, Poland's consul in Lisbon, the family had lived in Portugal for several years.

According to the Daily Mail, the children were with Polish diplomats undergoing psychiatric care and relatives were on their way to Portugal.
