"I have been so devastated by seeing all the people lined up waiting for food," DeGeneres said in an Instagram post Wednesday. She added that she "can't imagine what it's like to be sitting for hours and hours, waiting to get food and hoping there's going to even be any left by the time you get there."
Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro had nominated DeGeneres to participate in the campaign earlier that day.
"We recently launched #AmericasFoodFund to help make sure every family in need gets access to food at this critical time," DiCaprio wrote in an Instagram post. "Our most vulnerable communities need our support now more than ever. That's why we're asking you to help us with the #AllinChallenge."
The fundraising campaign is offering chances to win "once-in-a-lifetime experiences" in exchange for donations, according to its website. DeGeneres is offering a chance to co-host her show, while DiCaprio and De Niro are offering a walk-on role in their new film directed by Martin Scorsese, "Killers of the Flower Moon."
As of Thursday morning, the All-in Challenge had raised more than $5.5 million, its website said.
