The second half of the school year has been tough for high school seniors because of the coronavirus pandemic. But as graduation approaches, one class in Iowa has something to smile about.

The 56 members of Panorama High School's Class of 2020 each received $50 in gift cards from an anonymous donor to spend at a business in their home town of Panora, KCCI reported.

The students received a $25 card for Crafty’s Coffee and $25 to the Lake Panorama Pizzeria, the television station reported.

The donors, who wanted to remain anonymous, spent $2,800.

"It was really heartwarming," Panorama senior Maggie Woodvine told KCCI. "It just was awesome to know (the) community is thinking about us."

“Thank you very much for brightening up this really dark time we’ve been going through," Alexandra Kurtz told the television station.

The donor told KCCI the goal was to provide a spark to everyday life.

"You hear about some of the other generous things happening around the world during this time," Kristin Rumelhart, the owner of Crafty's Coffee and Gifts, told KCCI. "To have it happen in our hometown, it's great."
