Deputies: Best Buy Geek Squad finds child porn on Florida teacher’s computer

A former middle school teacher in Florida is accused of possessing child pornography after he bought his laptop to a store for repairs, authorities said.

William Crawford, 69, of Wesley Chapel, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Crawford was a science teacher at Dr. John Long Middle School in Wesley Chapel, WTSP reported. A Pasco County School District spokesman confirmed that Crawford resigned Tuesday, the television station reported.

According to an arrest affidavit, Crawford brought his laptop into a Best Buy store for repairs, WFTS reported. According to the affidavit, a Geek Squad member at Best Buy, who was working on the laptop, found images "consistent with child pornography," the television station reported.

The investigation began in August 2019, WFLA reported. Deputies obtained a search warrant and seized the laptop, according to WFTS.

Following the investigation, Crawford was arrested and charged, WFTS reported. According to the affidavit, deputies said Crawford admitted to having illegal images on his laptop, the television station reported.

Crawford remains in custody, according to Pasco County jail records.
