4 family members shot to death in Ohio apartment; police search for killer

Update 8:15 p.m. EDT April 29:  Police received a frantic 911 call Sunday night just after 9:30 p.m. after a relative discovered four family members, three females and a male, shot to death inside the apartment they shared in West Chester Township.

The man who called 911 to report the incident was distraught and said he returnedhome to find his wife and family on the ground bleeding.

Police are still searching for a suspect, but Chief Joel Herzog said he didn’t believe anyone in the West Chester community was in danger.

Neighbors were shocked by the violent crime.

“I wouldn’t expect something like this to happen out here in West Chester,” said Charles Johnson, who lives at the Lakefront at West Chester apartment complex.

Another resident, who did not want to be identified, said she was out of town Sunday night when the shocking happened and was shocked when she heard about it.

“They are not giving too much information. We pay too much money here to not feel safe,” she said.

Religious leaders said the family attended a Sikh temple in West Chester.

Jasminder Singh, president of the executive committee from Guru Nanak Society Sikh Gurudwara Sahib of Greater Cincinnati, said he has known the male victim in the massacre for 11 years.

“He was a great friend, he was a great dad, he was a great grandfather and he was a great husband,” Singh said.

The investigation is continuing.

Original story: Police from multiple agencies were at the scene overnight at the complex on Wyndtree Drive in West Chester Township.

Police are investigating the deaths as homicides, said Barb Wilson, director of public relations for West Chester Township.

Investigators are not releasing any information about the victims at this time, including their ages, Wilson said. The cause of the deaths also has not been released, and there’s no indication that officials have a suspect.
