Group on scooters confronts, shoots man

A shooting on a busy downtown Atlanta street Tuesday left a young man in critical condition.

Police are now looking for a group of suspects who were seen on scooters and bikes at the time of the shooting.

Police said the group confronted the 21-year-old victim as he walked up Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Peachtree Street late Tuesday night.

The man was shot multiple times and ran down a hill for a couple of blocks before collapsing, police said.

“When they arrived here they found one victim who was shot multiple times,” said Capt. Reginald Moorman.

Bullets also hit a car parked on the street, shattering its back window.

Atlanta officers found two scooters and a bicycle left at the scene by a group of four men, one who pulled the gun.

“Upon looking at the video, the shooter was actually on foot,” Moorman said.

Security cameras inside the Yumm Teryaki restaurant captured the shooting just outside. Detectives are looking at that video to get a good description of the suspects.

“(Investigators were) able to look at some of the scene, some of what happened on video, so we’re trying to see if anyone else saw anything,” Moorman said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
