Barack Obama’s half-brother Malik has endorsed Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States because the Republican presidential nominee “speaks from the heart” and has a great slogan, among other things.
“I like Donald Trump because he speaks from the heart,” Malik Obama, 58, told the New York Post. “'Make America Great Again' is a great slogan. I would like to meet him.”
The elder Obama said the FBI’s recommendation not to prosecute presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, although she was said to be “extremely careless" with the handling of emails while scretary of state was the thing that put him over the edge.
“She should have known better as the custodian of classified information,” he said, before Clinton's dealings in Libya.
The Democratic president's half-brother, a lifelong Democrat, also said the Republican Party’s stance on gay marriage has influenced his endorsement.
“I feel like a Republican now because they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me,” he said. “That’s personal.”
“Mr. Trump is providing something new and something fresh,” Obama went on.
An image of Malik Obama in a Trump campaign hat has was plastered on the New York Post’s Sunday front page.
Trump was quick to crow about the news story, saying Malik had probably been treated poorly by the president “like everybody else.”
