Kardashian is quietly paying the fees while Barnett and Cody do the lawyering, according to TMZ.

This isn't Kardashian's first foray into criminal justice activism. She previously brought attention to the cases of Cyntoia Brown in Tennessee and Alice Marie Johnson in Alabama, among others. She was outspoken in her support of the First Step Act, a prison reform measure that President Donald Trump signed into law in December 2018.

Among the inmates who Kardashian has helped free is Terrence Byrd, who served 25 years of a life without parole sentence for a drug possession charge, TMZ reported.

Another inmate freed as part of the campaign is Eric Balcom, who was sentenced to life without parole for a drug charge. He served 16 years of his sentence, according to TMZ.

Kardashian said in April that she's studying criminal law and plans to take the bar exam in 2022.
