His doctors said he has only about a week to live, but instead of worrying about his final days, Richard Ewers, of Bexar County, Texas, is looking for homes for his remaining rescue dogs.

Ewers found out last year that he was dying from cancer, KSAT reported.

At the time, he had 27 dogs that had either been dumped by owners or were strays.

Ewers, who entered hospice care recently, still had 11 dogs to rehome when he found out he had only days left to live, KSAT reported.

He has had volunteers help feed the dogs, give them water and even spend time with them, KSAT reported.

If Ewers and the volunteers don’t find homes for the remaining dogs, the county will take them.

All of the dogs have been spayed or neutered. But all need to be checked by a vet once they are either adopted or fostered, KSAT reported.

For more information about Ewers and his dogs, a Facebook page has been set up to find homes for the pups.
